Dear Friends:

Over the last forty years we have made three attempts to visit Israel.  The first time, in 1967, the Six Day War got in the way.  (You may have heard about that.)  The second and third times, other similar matters intervened and for a long time, too long, we turned our attention elsewhere.  But now the time is right, and at long last we will finally be making that journey.

 And we would love for you to go with us.

 We leave with Rabbi Kulwin on Saturday, October 23 and will spend ten days doing as much as we can, visiting the northernmost reaches of the Galilee and heading all the way down to the Dead Sea…and if you want to spend an extra day checking out Eilat at the southernmost tip, that’s possible too.  We will visit what must be visited on any trip to Israel —Masada, the Old City, Yad V’shem—as well as historical and political attractions off the beaten path.  We will see Israel up close and personal and learn from a number of interesting and stimulating personalities about the Israel of today.  We will meet Israelis of every size and shape.

We will travel in safety, in comfort, and with each other… in great company.

 Sometimes, those of a “certain age” think of a trip like this as something we should do with or for our children or grandchildren.  And there is something to be said for that.  But this particular trip…is for us.  We want to learn together, explore together, and especially, have our spirits be touched by everything around us.

Dear Members of our TBA Family:

We are excited to be leading the Temple B'nai Abraham trip to Israel this coming December. The Zucker family has never been and we are thrilled to share this incredible experience with others in the Temple family. In the last five years, nearly 200 Temple members traveled to Israel with Rabbi Kulwin…and we will be adding to that number!

We leave the evening of Wednesday, December 22, 2010 and return early in the morning of Sunday, January 2, 2011.  Traveling with a group from one’s own shul will make what is already a moving experience that much more amazing.

Geared toward adults traveling with kids, this trip is truly a family mission — grandparents are certainly welcome!  The kids should be at least seven, but every age above that, including college and beyond, will have a great time.  The trip will appeal both to first timers and to those who have already visited Israel. 

We will do all the things one must do while in Israel — visit the Western Wall, walk the beach in Tel Aviv, swim in the Dead Sea, climb Masada, explore the Negev — as well as experience some less traveled roads—a jeep ride on the Golan Heights, a night in a Bedouin tent, and maybe even rappelling down the highest cliffs in the country. In ten days we won’t be able to get quite everywhere…but we’ll sure try! Professional guides will accompany us the entire time, as will youth counselors to arrange special activities for the kids to keep them engaged and enthused.

(Also, at a special service on Masada, children who are at least reasonably close to age 13 will have the chance to read from the Torah, along with anyone else who wants to have a “second” Bar or Bat Mitzvah…in Israel!)

As with previous trips, ours will officially be a mission of the Federation.  Through MetroWest connections we will enjoy special opportunities as well as travel in absolute and complete safety.  We will meet and learn from key Israeli leaders, and Rabbi Kulwin’s personal contacts will enable us to have some unique experiences.

Any visit to Israel is one of the greatest experiences a Jew can know. To do so with our own family and the extended TBA family takes things to a whole new dimension. We hope that you will join us!
