For decades, the Social Action Committee has
rallied Temple members to respond to needs within the Jewish
community and the in community-at-large through awareness,
advocacy, and service. From resettlement of Jews from the former
Soviet Union, to assisting the poor and disadvantaged both
locally and beyond, to interfaith observances, to environmental
stewardship, to support for Israel, this committee is dedicated
to engaging members of all ages in acts of Tikkun Olam
(healing the world).
The
Social Action Committee plans annual events such as the High
Holiday Food drive, voter registration, Dinner in the Sukkah,
and the Women’s Interfaith Forum and organizes group
participation in the Community Soup Kitchen and collections of
clothing, toiletries, schools supplies, used bicycles, baby
items and more. Social Action activities are often conducted in
cooperation with Sisterhood, Men’s Club, the religious school,
Early School and the Israel Committee. The Social Action
Committee welcomes new members to attend meetings, join in its
on-going initiatives, and to help identify new directions and
priorities.
